When to Take Off Your Winter Snow Tires

When to Take Off Your Winter Snow Tires

Take off your snow tiresWinter is nearing its end, and that means it’s almost time to start de-winterizing our cars. If you switched out your all-season tires for winter tires last year, you might be wondering when it’s time to take off your snow tires.

Winter tires don’t perform well in warm weather, so it’s definitely important to switch them back as soon as the weather is consistently warm. Note the word consistently, though—don’t jump the gun if you have a warm couple of days. If there are still cold fronts coming through and snow is still a threat, keep the winter tires on a bit longer.

You want to make sure the temperature is above freezing at night as well as during the day, since low temperatures can harden your tires and reduce traction. On the other hand, don’t be afraid to switch them out if you feel like it’s warm enough. A cold morning in the middle of a warm streak or a light snow won’t be too much for your all-season tires to handle.

If you aren’t switching out your tires on your own, schedule an appointment at Two Rivers Ford.
