Winter Driving Tips

Stay Safe This Winter
Winter driving can be dangerous, follow these tips to stay safe!

Whether you’re the most veteran of winter drivers or you’ve just moved to a colder climate, it never hurts to review some winter driving tips when the season is right. This is especially true if you’ve recently started driving a new vehicle. Lots of modern cars, SUVs and trucks come with smart safety features designed to help drivers in extreme weather conditions.

You should definitely read the user’s manual to learn about what features your car has. But, if you’ve never driven your car in snow or ice, it’s a good idea to take it for a test drive in an empty parking lot before hitting the road. This way, you can get a feel for your new anti-lock brakes or your intelligent all-wheel drive.

While you’re experimenting with your car in a safe, open place, you’ll probably find that it’s difficult to do anything very quickly in the snow and ice. When driving in winter conditions, you should accelerate slowly to keep better traction and control. The same goes for coming to a stop. Rather than braking immediately, try first to gently lift your foot off of the gas to come to a gradual stop. Taking things slowly this winter will keep you in control of your vehicle and keep you and your family safe.
