Ford just keeps finding new ways to innovate in the effort to make our planet a cleaner place. The new 2022 Ford Bronco Sport, available from Two Rivers Ford in Mt. Juliet, is the first vehicle ever to use 100 percent recycled ocean plastic for a component.

You may not be able see the small part made of recycled ocean plastic in the Ford Bronco Sport, but it’s making a big difference. As much as 13 million tons of plastic goes into the ocean each year, which has disastrous effects on the ecosystem.

Ford partners with DSM Engineering Materials, who fishes plastic out of the Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea. Those plastics are cleaned and prepared, then sent to HellermannTyton to be transformed into wiring harness clips. These clips secure the wires used in the Bronco Sport for its side-curtain airbags, and they’re stronger than the typical petroleum-based clips.

It may seem small in context, but Ford continues to look for ways to implement more sustainable materials into its vehicles. Recently, Ford started using plastic from recycled water bottles to build the underbody shields for the Ford Escape.

On top of helping clean up our oceans, the 2022 Ford Bronco Sport is just an incredible vehicle to behold. It’s fun to drive, ready for action, and even a great bet for a growing family.
