Four Ford Vehicles Earn Top Scores for Rear-Seat Safety

The Ford Bronco, Bronco Sport, F-150, and Mustang Mach-E are four of the most incredible vehicles in today’s Blue Oval lineup. These key Ford vehicles also share a unique accolade: Each earned high scores from Consumer Reports in its rear-seat safety test.

Consumer Reports published the results of its annual Rear-Seat Safety Score study in January, finding that four Ford vehicles were among the best in the industry. CR rates vehicles based on key factors like car-seat fit, ease of use for booster seats, and rear-occupant alert technology.

Four of the top six vehicles for the 2021 model year come from Ford. The Bronco and Bronco Sport both scored a 64 overall while the F-150 XLT and Mustang Mach-E both scored a 63. All four scored Very Good for child seat fit and rear belt minders.

“The message from our new rear-seat safety testing is not that vehicles with lower scores are unsafe, but that they do not offer the same comparative margin of protection as those vehicles that earn higher marks,” said Emily Thomas, a safety engineer for Consumer Reports. “For consumers who are regularly shuttling around passengers of all ages, our evaluations can make a big difference.”

These vehicles are no stranger to safety accolades. Recently, the 2022 Ford Bronco Sport earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Top Safety Pick+ — an accolade shared by the Ford Explorer. Five other Ford vehicles earned the Top Safety Pick, including the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E and SuperCab and SuperCrew® configurations of the F-150.[1]
