John Barker of Two Rivers Ford Is Nominated for TIME Dealer of the Year

At Two Rivers Ford, we’re proud to announce that our very own John Barker has been nominated for the title of TIME Dealer of the Year.

Barker has nurtured a lifelong passion for cars, encouraged by his father, the previous owner of Two Rivers Ford. That supportive family environment and love for automobiles drove him onwards and upwards to success. After earning a degree at the University of Mississippi in Oxford in 1990, he began officially working at Two Rivers Ford in Mount Juliet, Tennessee.

“Throughout my high school years, I was washing cars and working many other jobs around the dealership,” Barker said of his early career. “After Ole Miss, my father wanted me to learn every position of the dealership, from selling cars to working in the service department.”

This vast and varied knowledge of the dealership helped him rise through the ranks. He eventually became a sales manager and finance manager before earning his spot as a general manager by the time he was 30 years old. However, as his father aged, he and his father formed a plan to pass along the family business.

In true family business fashion, Barker’s son Matthew is now an active part of the dealership, serving as a sales manager and giving back to the local community with the “Drive the Music” fundraiser.

Two Rivers Ford also is proud to be a supporter of Susan G. Komen Central Tennessee and the local “Fill A Ford Toy Drive,” in association with the Nashville Metro Police Christmas Charities. And, the dealership is a partner of St. Jude Children’s research hospital.

Barker has also honed his leadership skills by serving on many boards, including the Tennessee Automotive Association, the Tennessee Motor Vehicle Commission, and Nashville Franchised Auto Dealers Association.

“I feel that all community involvement is important and impactful. We don’t do it for the recognition, we do it because it is close to the hearts of our employees and customers,” said Barker.

At Two Rivers Ford, we look forward to serving the Mount Juliet community for many years to come. If there’s any way we can assist you, be sure to give us a call.

Ford Ranger Earns the Top Spot in the 2020 American-Made Index

Each year, compiles its American-Made Index, which ranks vehicles by how much they contribute to the U.S. economy. In 2020, the Ford Ranger earned the number-one spot and bested 90 other models. After all, what’s more American than this fun pickup truck? created its 2020 list based on five individual factors: where a vehicle is assembled, where its engines come from, where its parts are sourced, where its transmissions originate, and the number of people employed in U.S. factories, relative to the automaker’s manufacturing.

The 2020 Ford Ranger is equipped with the 270-horsepower 2.3-liter EcoBoost®. This engine is built at the Cleveland Engine Plant in Ohio. Meanwhile, its crankshaft, block and head are built at the Romeo Engine Plant located in Michigan.

In addition to making contributions to the economy, the 2020 Ford Ranger is also a powerful and capable midsize pickup that more than earns its accolades. When properly equipped, it can tow 7,500 pounds, deliver a best-in-class maximum payload rating of 1,860 pounds and achieve a best-in-class gas torque rating of 310 lb-ft.

U.S. Truck Sales Surpass Passenger Car Sales for the First Time

U.S. vehicle trends have been changing for years in favor of trucks and SUVs. While their sales have gradually gone up year after year, passenger car sales have declined. This year, American truck sales have finally surpassed the sales of cars for the first time in history according to Autodata Corporation.

There’s not a small gap, either. Bloomberg reported that there were 17,000 more pickup trucks than passenger cars during April. The trucks that are doing the best are full-size trucks, accounting for more than 40 percent of American manufacturer sales in that month.

You’re probably not surprised if you’re a truck enthusiast, but others might wonder why trucks have taken over. Recent deals like zero-percent financing offers and the extremely low gas prices have certainly made buying a truck a sweeter choice.

If the trend continues, it’s possible that dealers like us at Two Rivers Ford may even find it difficult to keep trucks in stock. This is thanks to some production plants shut down during the ongoing COVI-19 pandemic, resulting in less supply when there’s been a surge in demand.

Sales will only get better as there is no reason for this trend to end, so you should expect the margin between trucks and cars to get even wider in the future. No matter what happens, we on the Two Rivers Ford team in Mount Juliet, Tennessee, will do what we can to find you the perfect truck.

Ford Is the Top Automaker in 2020 Brand Intimacy Study

Ford has staked its claim as one of America’s most beloved brands by constantly innovating and bringing drivers more of what they love. That commitment to its customers helped Ford earn the number one spot for automakers and fourth spot overall in the 2020 Brand Intimacy Study.

The study, put on by MBLM, uses a complex model to look at how much customers of top brands love their products. In the 2020 edition, Ford ranks highly among some of the biggest brands on the planet. Plus, with a Brand Intimacy Quotient of 64.9 out of a possible 100, Ford is almost five full points better than the second-highest auto brand.

How much do Ford drivers love their vehicles? Around 22 percent say they can’t live without their Ford. That’s even more impressive when you consider that 61.6 percent say that they’ve been Ford customers for 10 years or less, which means Ford is staying relevant with young drivers. Among drivers between the ages of 18 and 34 years old, Ford was also the top auto brand, and it scored the top spot overall for men.

Ford earning high marks in the 2020 Brand Intimacy Study is just the result of doing what it’s done best for so long. At Two Rivers Ford in Mount Juliet, Tennessee, what we do best is meet your needs. Whether you’re looking to purchase a new Ford or get your current Ford serviced, we’re here to serve you with a smile.
