Redefining Sustainable Design: Ford Soy-Foam Materials

Soybeans may not sound that exciting, but Ford recently made headlines by demonstrating how it used this renewable crop to create materials for many of its designs. In particular, Ford recently celebrated its ten-year anniversary of using soy-foam materials for seat cushions, seat backs, and headrests, the first step among many in reaching a truly sustainable future.

According to Ford, roughly 18.5 million cars have soybean-based foams in them, a technology which necessitates approximately 500 billion soybeans. By switching to soy foam, Ford reduced carbon dioxide emissions by about 228 million pounds, as the foam replaces petroleum-based products like plastics.

“The research and testing of renewable, plant-based alternatives to petroleum-derived plastics has been my life’s work since 2000, and I’m proud to be able to continue the vision of Henry Ford,” said Debbie Mielewski, senior technical leader of Materials and Sustainability at Ford.

The company first introduced the revolutionary foam back in 2007, though Henry Ford himself had the idea to introduce biomaterials as early as the 1940s. Plant-based alternatives to plastics greatly reduce the oil consumption, which in turn drives gas prices down—even if it does so indirectly over the course of several years. Soy foam is just one of many Ford technologies that are redefining sustainable design. We at Two Rivers Ford can’t wait to see what the brand develops next.

2018 Ford F-150 Overview

Three years ago, Ford introduced the all-aluminum truck bed on the F-150 for a more lightweight and efficient design, and it paid off; sales numbers have been booming since the switch, keeping the Ford F-150 in the #1 spot among American trucks. However, Ford isn’t stopping there, introducing a revamped F-150 for the 2018 model year. Here’s what we know so far about the upcoming model.

2018 Ford F-150 overview

The 2018 F-150 will be getting a few different features and new grille designs across the lineup, as well as a fresh look for the headlamps. Additionally, the F-150 is getting a new max towing capacity. When equipped with the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 and the Max Trailering Package, the 2018 Ford F-150 will be able to tow up to 13,200 pounds thanks to a thicker steel frame that provides a heftier platform. All of the 2018 model’s four engines will be stronger than last year’s offerings. Features like Pro Trailer Backup Assist and a 360-degree camera will help you tow, haul, and backup more easily than ever before.

A quick Ford F-150 overview indicates that the 2018 model will be better than ever, with more innovative and powerful features, as well as a fresh design. Check out this beast when it releases at Two Rivers Ford.

Top Three Reasons to Buy a Ford Fusion

Ford Fusion InteriorThe mid-size sedan market is a pretty crowded place, and it takes a lot to stand out from the masses. But the Ford Fusion definitely does, for more than a few reasons. There are so many reasons to buy a Ford Fusion that we can’t name them all here, but these are some of the biggest.

Safety

The Ford Focus was named a Top Safety Pick+ by the IIHS, the organization’s highest designation. This means the Fusion scored a good rating in all its crash tests and at least an advanced rating for front crash prevention. The Fusion comes with available Adaptive Cruise Control, a Blind Spot Information System, enhanced Active Park Assist, and even Pothole Mitigation. All of these help you stay safe and minimize damage to your Fusion.

Technology

In addition to the safety technology mentioned above, the Fusion is packed with comfort, convenience, and infotainment technologies. SYNC 3 is Ford’s innovative infotainment system and features voice activation, a color touchscreen, Siri® Eyes Free, and much more.

Design

Part of what makes the Ford Fusion stand out so much is its incredible design. With the aggressive low stance and build of the Fusion, it’s hard to believe this isn’t a sports car, and its unique front and spacious interior made with luxurious materials make it one of the most comfortable, interesting cars on the road today.

Ford F-150 Rated Top “Greener Choice”

There’s lots of reasons to love Ford pickup trucks. They have power, strength, and rugged style. However, they don’t lack in efficiency, either. The Ford F-150 proved that by being named a “Greener Choice.”

The 2017 F-150 earned this title from the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy. Every year, the ACEEE gives out awards to cars that help our environment with high fuel economy. The F-150 earned a Greener Choice award, a triumph for a full-size truck.

The F-150 was the only full-size truck to get the award. It earned it with its eco-friendly 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine. When equipped with this engine, the 2017 F-150 earned an ACEEE Green Score of 39. That means that the F-150 was 12th overall in Greener Choices! That’s impressive for a pickup truck.

A fuel rating of 26 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined makes the truck best-in-class for fuel efficiency. But if you choose this truck, you won’t only be getting amazing fuel efficiency. There are other smart features like a 10-speed automatic transmission and engine stop/start technology.

The 2017 Ford F-150 is chock full of intelligence and ready to take you on any adventure. Check out the Ford F-150 today at Two Rivers Ford.
